Seoul West Little League from Seoul, South Korea, emerged victorious at the 2017 Little League Baseball® Asia-Pacific Region Championship, defeating Tung Yuan Little League from Chinese Taipei, 6-1, on Friday, July 7. A total of 11 teams participated in the seven-day event, held at the brand new Hwaseong Dream Park in Seoul, South Korea.
With the win, Seoul West Little League becomes the first of 16 teams to earn a spot in the 2017 Little League Baseball World Series, held from August 17-27 in South Williamsport, Pa.
Seoul West Little League got off to an early start with a 12-0 win over Chinese Taipei and worked its way through the tournament to a semifinal victory over Guam before facing off once again with Chinese Taipei in the championship game.
In 2016, East Seoul Little League made the trip to Williamsport, earning the International Championship title before falling to Maine-Endwell Little League of the Mid-Atlantic Region, 2-1, in the Little League Baseball World Series Championship game. Now, for the second-straight year, a team from South Korea will get its chance at the world championship, a title that the country has already won three times.

This year’s trip to Williamsport marks the third time in the last four years, and the fifth time overall, that a team from South Korea will represent the Asia-Pacific Region at the Little League Baseball World Series. It is also the second consecutive year that a team from South Korea has defeated a team from Chinese Taipei in the championship game of the Asia-Pacific Region Tournament.

The first-round pairings for the 2017 Little League Baseball World Series were drawn and announced at the annual Little League Baseball World Series Luncheon on Thursday, June 15. Asia-Pacific will be playing the winner of the Caribbean Region on Friday, August 18. Spanning the course of 10 days, 32 games will be played in the 2017 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, culminating in the Championship Game, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 27.
